Japan grants Cambodia independence Sihanouk asks for the return of the French
The Japanese hunt Vichy representatives of power by a coup de force and grant independence to the Cambodia with Sihanouk asking for the return of the French. In Honoi, Ho Chi Minh proclaims the independence of vietnam.

Sloth Sar (Pol Pot) studies in France returning as a communist
Sloth Sar (future Pol Pot) went to Paris to study there and stayed there until 1953. On his return to Cambodia, he became a communist.

Sihanouk obtained from France a limited independence.

1953 - Cambodia wins its independence from France. Under King Sihanouk, it becomes the Kingdom of Cambodia.

French are defeated at Dien Bien Phu
The Ho Chi Minh army beat the French at Dien Bien Phu. Conference to resolve the Korean and Indo-Chinese conflicts. Sihanouk gets to exercise total power over an independent Cambodia. The Cambodian communist leader Son Ngoc Thanh and about half of the communist Khmer movement are exiled to North Vietnam.
