Costa / Murkowski Remedy
INTRODUCTION OF HR 4204

HR 4204 -  Special Guerrilla Unit (SGU) Veterans Service Recognition Expansion Act of 2019.

In an attempt to remedy the flaws in Public Law 115-141 Representative James Costa and Senator Lisa Murkowski worked on a new bill  to remedy the flawed language. Their remedy was a new bill  expanding the eligibility of burial rights. That bill was HR 4204 -Special Guerrilla Unit (SGU) Veterans Service Recognition Expansion Act of 2019. In effect the language of that bill only complicated eligibility by confusing the definition of who was a veteran and what was SGU. Representative Costa introduced the bill in the United States House of Representatives in August of 2019 however Senator Murkowski did not. That bill died in the 116th Congress. No other remedy has been discussed or proposed. Allies continue to be denied the honor they deserve.
